Whether you desire just a little cosmetic help, or if you want to turn back the clock a bit, we are so fortunate to have safe and effective injectable products to help us look our best. Always seek an expert injector you can trust, like Dr. Amiry, who believes that often less is more. Knowing where to inject for the greatest impact is more important than the number of units and syringes.

"It's not about the amount of filler or Botox you use, but the result you want to achieve." - Dr. Amiry

The term injectables refers to a variety of non-surgical aesthetic procedures that are administered beneath the skin via small injections, including neurotoxins, dermal fillers, and lipotropics. Our expert injectors commonly use a combination of injectable types to relax wrinkles, fill lines, restore volume, enhance facial features, dissolve fat, and improve facial contours.

Types of Injectables

Wrinkle Reducers

Wrinkle reducers, also called neuromodulators or neurotoxins, are comprised of botulinum toxin type A and designed to smooth moderate to severe wrinkles. Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau are FDA-approved neurotoxins available in the U.S. market today. Botox has been used for medical purposes for over 30 years; in 2002 the FDA approved it for cosmetic purposes. All brands are safe when correctly injected and contraindications are observed.

How Do They Work?

When injected into targeted muscles, these products block communication between nerves and muscles. This produces a temporary effect that limits muscle contraction, causing wrinkles and lines to relax for 3-4 months.

What Do Injectables Treat?

Wrinkle reducers are often used to treat dynamic wrinkles like horizontal forehead lines, frown lines between eyebrows, and crow's feet. At Reston Dermatology + Cosmetic Center, we have the expertise that comes with experience to improve other areas using neuromodulators, including improving gummy smiles, softening vertical neck bands, lifting downturned lip corners, smoothing lines under eyes, and balancing uneven eyebrows, for example. Talk to us about giving your face a more sculpted look with neuromodulators in the masseter muscles (chewing muscles) with the bonus of relief from bruxism—grinding your teeth when asleep!

What Age is Good to Start?

Did you know that by starting your wrinkle reducing injections in your late 20s to early 30s, you may prevent facial wrinkles from forming? Commitment to budgeting and scheduling your quarterly injections is like scheduling routine appointments for teeth cleaning. If you're starting your injections later in life, that's okay, too, as routine quarterly injections will keep your lines smoothed and softened—you'll always look your best. Maintaining this routine can prevent the lines from deepening and becoming permanently etched. If you already have etched lines, no worries! With a combination of neuromodulators and dermal fillers to lift the wrinkle, we can still help you achieve your goals of a more youthful look.

At Reston Dermatology + Cosmetic Center, our providers have injected more than TWO MILLION units of neuromodulators to help our patients achieve a more refreshed and youthful appearance!

Volumizing Fillers

Most dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, which is naturally present in your body's cells. Hyaluronic acid injections are commonly used to restore volume, contour cheeks, plump lips, fill-in hollows, correct facial lines and folds, and rejuvenate hands, to name just a few uses! Upon injection, they readily attract and hold moisture for instant plumping and hydrating effects.

Hyaluronic Fillers

Juvederm and Restylane, are currently the most popular families of hyaluronic acid fillers. Properly placed, these fillers can make a big difference in the nasolabial lines from nose to mouth, marionette lines from outer lip corners to chin, jowling, and cheeks. Depending on the site of placement, typical duration averages about a year.

Allergan Juvederm fillers include Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus, Juvederm Voluma, Juvederm Vollure, and Juvederm Volbella. Galderma Restylane fillers include Restylane, Restylane Lyft, Restylane Refyne and Defyne, and made expressly for lips, Restylane Kysse.

Other Volumizing Fillers

Radiesse (calcium hydroxylapatite) and Sculptra (poly-L-lactic acid) are two well-known collagen stimulating volumizing fillers.

When injected into soft tissue, they produce an inflammatory response that encourages collagen growth around the injected product. As a result, they reinforce the skin’s foundation and provide long-lasting results (up to 1-2 years).

Radiesse’s texture and composition makes it perfect to fill hollow temples that give that "peanut head" look, and also create amazing "snatched jawlines" by contouring the lower jaw. Hyper-dilute Radiesse can be injected into the décolleté chest area to refresh and rejuvenate those lines caused by aging, sun damage, and sleeping on our sides. Other areas for hyper-dilute Radiesse include wrinkled knees, horizontal neck bands, and crepey underarms.

Radiesse was the first FDA cleared volumizing filler for back of the hand rejuvenation. Aging hands have prominent veins and sunken hollows that plump up beautifully when injected with Radiesse.

Sculptra is a a wonder for thinner faces, faces with all over fat loss sometimes attributed to runners or just aging. Injected at the optimal depth into the facial tissues, Sculptra will gradually help re-grow your own collagen to fill it in, but will not make you look “puffy!” It also helps the skin’s surface improve in texture and tone—bonus!

Since Sculptra grows your own collagen, we can also inject it into the buttocks to increase fullness and to lift sagging and loose buttock skin. Ask us about Sculptra butt-lifts!

Testimonials

The moment I arrived at Dr. Amiry’s office I knew it was going to be a wonderful experience. The staff was very friendly and professional, and the office very welcoming and beautiful. The treatments I received, Botox and Restylane around my lips was exactly what I wanted. Dr. Amiry was extremely attentive and listened to my concerns and made me feel very comfortable. He did not rush and I felt like I was a very special patient in his care. It was exciting to see the subtle change to my face, just a better me.

I do want to mention Dr. Amiry’s Staff. My experience with them has been nothing but positive. They are courteous, helpful and are an essential part of the experience. I have referred a friend to Dr. Amiry and her reaction has been identical, both regarding the staff and the doctor.

I recently had to renew my passport and what a nice surprise! The photos showed a much younger face than expected. Thank you so much Dr. Amiry, I will be back.

I was amazed by the immediacy of the results. After each injection, he let me check the results in the mirror. The effect of the fillers was instantaneous, it was a miracle! I love Botox for my forehead, but you have to wait for a week to ten days to appreciate what was done. With the fillers (I think it was Juvederm) you look younger right away. As he carefully chose where to inject the filler, the end result was smooth contour with no lumps (which I had been a little concerned about).

I saw Dr. Amiry in November. I needed Botox injections for my frown lines: also as I had lost some weight which along with the aging process made my face look sunken in places, and accentuated my nasal labial folds. I thought that perhaps a filler in the folds would help. Dr. Amiry suggested injecting filler in strategic areas of my face, rather than in the folds, which he said would help lift my face and suppress the sunken look.
