TeleDermatology Q+A

Q: What types of appointments can be done through TeleDermatology?

A: While video TeleDermatology does not replace all types of visits, it is an ideal way to get quick feedback and a treatment plan for some mild skin issues, such as rash, spider/insect bites, minor burns, and acne, and prescription refills. Please note, Reston Dermatology recommends that patients are seen *in person* for skin lesions and annual skin checks.

Q: Can I have a virtual cosmetic consultation?

A: Yes! This is an ideal way to stay in the comfort and safety of your home and save time. Our providers can meet you via technology and examine your skin and areas of concern,  provide advice for skin conditions, as well as recommend wrinkle reducers, lip fillers, fillers that address temples, nasolabial folds, etc. They will also provide a plan with pricing. The treatments can then be done in the office at your convenience.

Q: What if I have a condition that requires immediate attention?

A: TeleDermatology is not appropriate for all types of visits. *If you have an emergency, call 911*. TeleDermatology is designed for routine and non-urgent matters only. If you have any kind of urgent request or procedural need, you must schedule an in-office visit.

Q: What if I’m currently on Accutane?

A: Our female dermatology patients on Accutane should do an at home pregnancy test, per IPLEDGE. This test should be taken on the day of your virtual appointment. Make sure the test is not expired, follow the directions, and take a picture of the result. Do this before the appointment.  Male Accutane patients can also be seen via virtual appointments.

Q: Can I choose which provider will help me with my request?

A: You may schedule your TeleDermatology appointment with one of our meticulously trained, highly competent providers Leah Waller, PA, or Young Lee, NP.

Q: How much does it cost to use TeleDermatology for a medical visit?

A: For patients covered by a medical plan, we will file the visit through your insurance, but in the event that your plan denies the visit, the cost will be $75 (to be billed after the televisit).

Q: What can I expect at a Cosmetic TeleDermatology appointment?

A: Your provider can view over video any spots or lesions like skin tags, milia, seborrheic keratoses, DPNs, etc., that aren’t usually covered by insurance. Your provider can also provide a facial cosmetic plan, including Botox and other wrinkle reducers, dermal fillers, and skin care products. They will create a plan with an estimate of services for treatment. The cost for this service is $75 that will be credited to your account. Then you may schedule an in office visit to have your treatments performed.

Q: What days and times are available for TeleDermatology appointments?

A: Call us and we’ll find the first available time slots for you.
