National Healthy Skin Month- Dermatologist Approved Skin Care Tips

by in Dermatology, Skincare November 7, 2025

November is National Healthy Skin Month. We take this time to raise awareness of good skin care habits and remind patients of the importance of healthy skin. Here are some of our favorite tips for keeping your skin hydrated, healthy, and happy.

Dermatologist Approved Skin Care Tips

Hydrate. Hydrated skin is happy skin. Drink plenty of water, eat fruits and vegetables with higher water content, and avoid or limit alcohol. Hydrated skin is plumper, shows less visible wrinkles, and has an overall better appearance.

Sun Protection. Use a daily broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30, even in winter, and seek shade when possible. Protecting your skin from UV rays helps prevent skin cancer and drastically slows down aging.

Skin Exams. Check your skin regularly and schedule an annual skin exam with a dermatologist, especially if you have risk factors for skin cancer. Early detection is essential for the best outcome when it comes to skin cancer.

Skin Care for Your Phase in Life

Different skins have different needs. Understanding your skin’s needs help you choose the best products and keep it as healthy as possible.

Teens. Skin is naturally oily during this time so focus should be on controlling oily skin, preventing and clearing acne, and forming good habits that will last a lifetime.

20s. A good time to reevaluate your skin care routine and make changes as needed. Start practicing good anti-aging habits.

30s. Signs of aging start to become visible and you might consider cosmetic treatments. You can also focus on maximizing the effectiveness of your skincare products.

Pregnancy. During pregnancy, your skin needs might change, so your skincare routine should too. If you have trouble finding products that work well for you, your dermatologist can help.

Menopause. This life change comes with many noticeable changes to your skin and hair. The right care can help lessen these effects. Talk to your dermatologist about your options.

60s & 70s. At this point in life skin can often feel dry and irritated. But the right skin care products can improve how your skin feels and looks.
