Coronavirus Covid-19 Antibody Testing in Northern Virginia and Washington DC
A new antibody test has been created by KBMO Diagnostics that can quickly and accurately test for coronavirus infection and immunity. This test could be very helpful during this pandemic. So, who should get COVID-19 antibody testing? Anybody. Any person that has been potentially exposed to the virus, is recovering or would like to know if they are immune should have it done. Furthermore, you can be tested from the comfort and privacy of your home.
How Does COVID-19 Antibody Testing Work?
The kit detects 2019-nCoV IgM and IgG antibodies by immuno- capture method. In other words, if you have either kind of antibody in your blood it uses a very sensitive way to detect them.
For the scientists out there, the nitrocellulose membrane is coated by mouse-anti human monoclonal IgM antibodies, mouse-anti human monoclonal IgG antibodies, and goat-anti-mouse IgG antibodies. The recombinant 2019-nCoV antigen and mouse IgG antibodies are labeled with colloidal gold as a tracer. The antibodies will bind to colloidal gold-coated 2019- nCoV antigens to form compounds, which are further captured by pre-coated mouse-anti human IgM antibodies to form new compounds and generate real time results.

What Do the Results Mean?
This test looks for both IgG and IgM antibodies. Results will show:
- If you are negative for antibodies it means you have not been exposed to the virus and therefore have no immunity to the virus.
- If you are exposed and in the early stage of infection, transitioning and starting production of neutralizing antibodies. You are still contagious.
- Are in recovery phase and developing long term immunity to the Novel Coronavirus.
Limitations of Testing
Disclaimer: test indicates if you are positive or negative for the antibodies but we cannot make or guarantee clinical judgments regarding your ability to infect others or protection from possible reinfection with COVID 19.
If you are currently feeling sick, this is not the test for you. You will need to obtain a nasal swab through the county health services or your primary care office.
Has It Been Tested in Clinical Trials?
Yes, it has been tested. The Chinese Center for Disease Control tested nearly two million people with this kit. It has also been used in at least three well controlled clinical trials. There has been a lot of clinical research conducted on the kit. This test is more sensitive than many of the other tests being used. Meaning, it will pick up positives more accurately. Also, it will show the stage of infection that the patient is in.
